Your age group is determined by the birthday you celebrate during the year. For example if you turn twelve any time during 2012, then your age group is u12.
Teams are split into Competition (u11 & older) or Non Competition (u5 – u10).
Ages u5 – u10 play under the FFA mandated Small Sided Football rules. These rules have been designed to maximise player involvement & incorporate small playing areas & team numbers. Ages u11 upward play on full-size fields under FFA / FIFA guidelines.
- U5 – u7 play 4v4 on a 30m x 20m pitch
- U8 & u9 play 7 v 7 on a 40m x 50m (¼ full size) pitch
- U10 play 9 v9 on a 70m x 50m (½ full size) pitch
- Ages u11 upward play 11 v 11 on full-size fields under FFA / FIFA guidelines.
- u5-u8
WWFC conducts a Meet the Coaches Day during late Feb, for the younger age groups. This day is designed to organise each age group into teams, appoint coaches and decide on a training day.
You may find yourself joining an established team, or making up a new one.
- Under 9’s upward
From u9 on, players are graded into teams based generally on ability, but other factors come into account as well.
For the younger age groups, (u5 – u8) it’s fine for kids to play with their friends. For u9, players are placed into teams with other players of similar ability. This is the first step in the grading process, designed to prepare players for competition, which begins in the u11 age group.
As children get older, they start to join teams with players of similar ability, so it’s not always possible to play with friends or siblings. Kids that play in properly graded teams enjoy their football much more, in a team environment that is fair to all.
Grading for comp teams generally follows directly after the Club Registration Days. Keep any eye on the website for updates.
Will I play in pre season trials?
During March the club holds a number of club trials days with other clubs in the association. All teams will be matched with a directly corresponding team from the other club wherever possible. Sometimes there is no direct match, so we will play a higher or lower graded team as near to our own as possible.
When & where will training be?
Training for non comp players will be held in combined age groups, meaning that all under fives sixes & seven will train together as a group. This allows young players get to know the wider group, play games against each other, and provides a good way for parents to learn the ropes as well.
Competition teams generally decide on the training times as a group, based on player / coach availability.
Pre Season training is normally held on Monday & Wednesday afternoons at Brisbane Waters College Woy Woy, or at other venues as required. Generally the younger age groups train in the “earlier” part of the afternoon with the older players following along later.
It is customary for the club to return to our home ground (Austin Butler) in the week prior to competition start.
Please keep an eye on the website for updates about training times & venues.
For the younger age groups, the club relies heavily on our mums & dads to provide our coaches & managers. For non-comp teams we try to finalise coaches on the meet the coaches day.
Established teams in the older age groups often have a coach that elects to stay with them from year to year, but sometimes that changes due to work commitments or families moving away etc.
Either way, you will be contacted by either your coach or a club representative after Meet the Coaches day if you are in a non comp team, or after grading if you are in a competition side.
Do girls & boys play in the same teams?
Yes, right through to the u15 age group, when they move into dedicated male or female competitions.
Club apparel is available on grading & trials days, or by contacting the Property Officer.
Senior players generally join one of our established teams. If you are a new player, let us know about your playing experience when you sign up, and we will find an appropriate team for you.
A club or team representative will contact you to let you know what team you will be in & when training / trials will start.
- Frequent updates will be announced on the club website, so keep a close eye on the news items.
- Team lists will be announced via the club website after the grading process has completed.
- Team announcements such as training times etc will be made via SMS.
Round 1 will occur on the weekend of 14th / 15th April
